# What is SOL?

$SOL is the native token of the Solana Blockchain. 1 SOL can be divided into lamports, where 1 lamport = 0.000000001 sol. SOL is used for every transaction on the Solana blockchain for fees. Although transaction fees on the Solana blockchain are low, these fees add up and incentives the validators to maintain the ledger.
